The Nourish RI Coalition was founded by the Rhode Island Public Health Institute in 2021 to advocate for state policies to improve access to healthy, affordable food and increase food and nutrition security for all Rhode Islanders.

Numerous organizations and grassroots advocates throughout the state have partnered with RIPHI to advocate for healthy food access policies. Here are some of our past coalition members:

  • The American Heart Association
  • Rhode Island Medical Society
  • Rhode Island Foundation
  • NAACP Providence Chapter
  • Progreso Latino
  • Rhode Island Academy of Physicians Assistants
  • Rhode Island State Nurses Association
  • Washington County Health Equity Zone
  • Rhode Island Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics
  • Central Falls & Pawtucket Health Equity Zone
  • Neighborhood Health Plan
  • Crossroads Rhode Island
  • City of Pawtucket
  • Rhode Island Community Food Bank
  • Tourtellot Produce Distributors
  • Urban Greens Grocery Market
  • Second Nature Nutrition
  • Oasis International
  • Community Market at St. Peter’s by the Sea
  • All Foods Nutrition
  • Center for Science in the Public Interest
  • Kids Count

For the upcoming 2024 General Assembly Session, the Nourish RI coalition will be advocating for two policy campaigns:

  1. Continuous funding for the Eat Well, Be Well Rewards Program: The Nourish RI coalition is asking the General Assembly to include a funding allocation to continue the operations of the country’s first statewide SNAP incentive program. Learn more about Eat Well, Be Well Rewards and this advocacy campaign here
  2. Healthy Kids Meals in Restaurants: Our legislation would apply uniform nutrition standards across all Rhode Island restaurants, requiring kids’ meals to meet straightforward caloric, ingredient, and food requirements set forth by the Center for Science in the Public Interest and the American Heart Association. It would help parents make the healthy and affordable choice for their children easy when dining out at Rhode Island’s restaurants. Learn more about the Healthy Kids Meal Legislation here
