Food on the Move makes healthy food accessible and affordable. Our mobile produce market brings fresh fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods throughout Rhode Island and lowers the cost of healthy food through a SNAP incentive program.
We believe that everyone deserves healthy food. One in eight Rhode Islanders is food insecure or lacking reliable access to nutritious food. Our Food on the Move year-round mobile produce markets aim to reduce food insecurity. We make healthy food more affordable by offering our customers a 50% discount on produce purchased with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dollars. Food on the Move caters to the cultural diversity of its customers. Our bilingual market staff is prepared to offer assistance while engaging in friendly conversation in the customer’s preferred language. The Food on the Move truck keeps produce fresh, allowing us to deliver fruits and vegetables to the people and places that need it the most.

Customers who join our loyalty card program earn rewards every time they shop. For every $2 that you spend, you will earn 1 point. Once you have 100 points you receive $5 off your next purchase. The more you shop, the more you earn! Customers will be asked for their customer loyalty card, or staff can look up customers by name, email or phone number at check out.
**Sample schedules are reflective of the outdoor summer model for FOTM**
FOTM is conducting a longitudinal study designed to measure how shopping at FOTM impacts changes in chronic disease management, the purchase and consumption of fruits and vegetables and health outcomes among our customers. Additionally, for a small subset of our customer base who self-reported diabetes or prediabetes on our longitudinal survey, we are collecting biometric data including hemoglobin A1c, lipids, blood pressure, waist circumference, and weight. We are able to connect this biometric data to both survey data and shopping data using the unique code for each participant through our loyalty card program and Point of Sale (POS) system, enabling us to track unique customers over time.
Food on the Move is supported by grants from AARP Foundation, USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Tufts Health Plan, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Foundation. The Food on the Move truck and trailer were purchased with the generous support of the Champlin Foundation.
